It has been 20 years since the option of smoking or no smoking was available in many Cochrane restaurants. And it’s the topic of our local history feature.
The April 29th, 2005 issue of the Times-Post reported that the Husky Roadhouse, Kaylob’s, the Station Inn and the curling and golf clubs were going smoke-free effective May 1st.
Husky manager Theresa Vachon said a province-wide smoking ban was inevitable, so her customers could adjust to it beforehand.
Kaylob’s owner Tina Antila said it took her longer to make the smoke-free decision than it did to buy the business six years earlier.
Town council had declined to pass a bylaw to ban smoking. A provincial law was expected to take effect the following year.
