Cochrane municipal council has a new member at the table.
Rod Reimer has been selected from a field of six people who let their names stand.
Reimer and his wife have lived in Génier since November 2022.
Speaking to the council meeting that heard from all the candidates, Reimer said since moving to town, he has served on the housing task force and the board of Northern Ontario Wires.
“And I found that when working in a group, the key is to listen,” he stated. “Not listen to respond, but listen to really understand what the person is talking about. Try to understand their viewpoint and really make sure that they’re heard.”
Reimer added that even though he has no longstanding family in the area, he brings a different perspective.
“And yet I can see the amazing potential here, the amazing opportunities and something that I’d like to be part of.”
Reimer garnered four votes from Mayor Peter Politis and the other five councillors. The other two were split between two candidates. He immediately took the oath of office and joined council, replacing Rodney Hoogenhoud, who resigned last month.
