Voluntary exit packages and layoffs are in the cards for employees of Northern College. It’s a survival tactic in the face of a major loss of revenue caused by new restrictions on international students.
President Mitch Dumas says the college is staring at a deficit of $6-million in the 2025-26 academic year, and twice as much the following year.
Reducing staff is one method to help, along with reducing expenses and increasing operational efficiencies.
Northern and other Ontario colleges are lobbying the three levels of government for policy adjustments that will help ensure their future.
