Bourgouin receives support of his private members bill

The group Truckers for Safer Highways has come out in support of the private members bill for the MPP of Mushkegowuk James Bay.

During a press conference this morning, co-founder Travis McDougall says there is no reason why the province shouldn’t adopt Guy Bourgouin’s proposed law that would make it illegal to pass on a solid double line in Ontario.

“It makes sense. Almost every other jurisdiction around Ontario and south and north of Ontario requires and makes it illegal to pass on a solid double line and yet Ontario has not done so,” McDougall said.”

Bourgouin says Conservative has also done similar work on changes to the Highway Traffic Act. He adds that he’s concerned about preliminary comments from the Transportation Ministry that called the law unnecessary.

“I am working to talk to government and the Minister to try and hopefully try to support it,” he said. “Base on the first comment he made I started to think maybe they won’t, but we need to have these more discussions so that we do try to convince them because it is right thing to do.”
