Province commits $20M to Municipal Rd.

It’s not everything the Town of Iroquois Falls and the City of Timmins ahave been requesting for the road that connects them.  But it is $20-million from the province to repair it.

The municipalities had been asking that Queen’s Park resume responsibility for Municipal Road – the former Hwy. 67 that was downloaded in the late 1990s.

The $20-million commitment announced Friday in the Falls is for what the government says will “address critical infrastructure upgrades to meet the growing demands of the region.”

The municipalities have been complaining about the worsening condition of the road that connects Hwys. 11 and 101. Having to fix it themselves was beyond the financial capability of Iroquois Falls, and would have meant tax increases in Timmins.

Specific timelines and projects will be decided later.
