Today’s Cochrane history feature goes back 50 years, and deals with cable TV and a tranquilizer gun.
The January 30th, 1975 issue of the Northland Post carries a report about recently-licenced Sudbury Cable planning to put up a tower in Cochrane, allowing it to bring in four more stations from Toronto and Montreal The report doesn’t specify how many channels were already available.
And the tranquilizer gun was for dogs. Town council decided to pay 244 dollars for one, after testing the gun owned by Iroquois Falls. It made strays easier to haul off to the pound.
Coun. Marc David wanted a $35.00 or $40.00 fine for the owner to retrieve their pooch, but Mayor Maurice Hotte (Morris Hutt) disagreed to raising if from $15.00. The only councillor voting against the gun purchase was Juli Karam.
