It’s more than 80 years since Cochrane’s first winter carnival. It’s back this year on a revival mission, and is called “Chimo Comeback.”
The town’s recreation supervisor, Chantal Joanis says the annual event in February went a bit quiet during COVID, and has been slow to recover.
“Now we want to really bring the people back to the community,” she remarks, “bring the people back to the carnival, have events that meant something to them 20 years ago, and bring it back.”
Joanis wants to bring more events back to Lake Commando and make them bigger.
You can keep track on the new Facebook page.
“So if everybody could like our page and at the same time be patient. We’re trying to post every event as soon as they come up. We’ve just got to make sure that everything is locked in, everything is well prepared before we post it on Facebook.”
The princess pageant is Friday, January 31st. The carnival itself kicks off in earnest the following Friday, running until Family Day on February 17th.
