Torch Run walk and fundraising barbecue are planned for Thursday in Cochrane

UPDATE: Over $1,200 raised.

Thursday is a big day for clients of North East Association for Community Living in Cochrane.

OPP Constable Kyler Brouwer says officers will be participating along with Community Living clients and staff in a Special Olympics Torch Run event.

“We will actually just be walking along with the clients from Community Living,” he notes. “We plan to start at around 11 o’clock in the morning, walk from detachment through the downtown core and then look back towards the Independent grocery store.”

That’s where a fundraising barbecue will help support Special Olympics Ontario.

Brouwer says the OPP relationship with torch run events goes back to the late 80s.

“Some are bigger than others. Ours is just a little walk, but the idea is to try to get as much community involvement as possible, raise awareness and raise funds to help out the Special Olympics Ontario.”
